We’re Steph &Mike Barnhart.We’ve owned more than a dozen businesses over the years and wanted to get into something that was a sound
investment while also being a lot of fun! We found our answer – big time – with suri alpacas.We started investigating the possibility in 1999.
We had owned horses in the past, but the tax advantages had all but dried up in the horse realm.
We found that new records were being set for alpaca prices at auction and that the average sale prices of alpacas were on the rise. We were
further encouraged when we learned just how docile and easy to care for these animals are.
We purchased our first two alpacas in 1999 and our herd has been growing ever since. At the time, we never dreamed that our farm would
grow so much in just a few years! Over the past 7 years we have grown to over 180 Suri Alpacas! We can truly say that, without a doubt,
alpacas are the best business opportunity we have been lucky enough to get into!
Steph is an AOBA certified fleece judge with 20 years of livestock experience from Arabian horses to alpacas for the last decade.Mike is
a “serial” entrepreneur who has been involved in industries from background checks to sports memorabilia to computers to pizza to ice
cream, and now alpacas!
The Alpaca Trading Company is dedicated to preserving suri bloodlines with emphasis on Accoyo Torbio.With our signature herdsire,
Torbio, we are building an impressive and rare herd of Accoyo suris related to Torbio. We also own Accoyo Gold, a rare fawn full Accoyo
male whose offspring have been doing fantastic in the show ring! Accoyo Chachapoya is another of our full Accoyo males that is a very rare
bloodline. We are also very excited for Torbio’s Accoyo Masterpiece, our medium fawn full Accoyo Torbio son that has started producing.
We now have his first cria on the ground, a dark fawn out of a white dam- this was exactly what we were looking for!
We are mixing Accoyo bloodlines with top quality colored suris to produce stunning part Accoyo colored suris. Some of our sensational
colored males are Brigadier, Draco (MacGyver son), Commander in Chief, The Firelord, and Constantinople! Our farm has distinct lines
from Peru, Bolivia and Chile.We have been breeding alpacas for almost 10 years now and have a foundation lineup with emphasis on
excellent conformation with large bones animals and our fleece focus remains on luster, density. We are very successful in the showring,
traveling to more than 15 shows annually. Our breeding program speaks for itself in the quality cria that we produce each and every year.
We offer financing and unparalleled customer support to new breeders and existing breeders. We have been selecting our foundation herd
for many years now and we have selected females who are capable of producing outstanding show winners each year!
Our signature herd sire offering is ATC Magnum by Torbio. It has been a really tough decision to part with this incredible male! Magnum
has proven himself in the show ring, and now with his first cria on the ground!
